Friday, $10 advance, $12 day of show – West Michigan folk duo Red Tail Ring won last year’s “Local Spin of the Year” award for its most recent studio album, and for good reason: This pair pays homage to traditional folk with a contemporary spin unlike anyone else. Red Tail Ring playing Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Café in Kalamazoo, 8:30 p.m. Friday, $10 advance, $15 day of show – Mandolinist Jacob Jolliff of Yonder Mountain String Band and the Jacob Jolliff Band and double bassist Max Johnson of the Jeff Austin Band have “teamed up to present an evening of blazing bluegrass virtuosity, beautiful brother harmonies, and outstanding original music.” This is part of Park Theatre’s Winter Bluegrass Series, with Americana’s Drive South opening the show. Friday, $23 advance, $25 day of show – Country singer Jordan Davis brings his “White Wine and Whiskey” tour to Grand Rapids with Jillian Jacqueline also on the bill for this all-ages show. Jordan Davis playing The Stache inside The Intersection in Grand Rapids, 8 p.m. Grand Rapids’ own folk-rock faves Watching for Foxes will open this show that’s part of the Red House Concert Series’ “Music at the Museum.” Friday, SOLD OUT – Scythian is a Washington D.C.-based Celtic/Gypsy/Americana band that started out as a bunch of street performers and ended up being a touring band that’s also a favorite at festivals across the country. Scythian and Watching for Foxes playing the Tri-Cities Historical Museum at 200 Washington Ave. Thursday, $15 advance, $18 day of show – Legendary Brooklyn garage band The Fleshtones makes a swing into Grand Rapids with West Michigan’s own garage faves The Fuzzrites opening the show. The Fleshtones and The Fuzzrites playing Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill in Grand Rapids, 8 p.m. Thursday, $12 advance, $15 day of show – Grand Rapids keyboard player and singer-songwriter Jes Kramer is the star attraction in the latest edition of this popular planetarium concert series. Jes Kramer playing a “Concert Under the Stars” at the Grand Rapids Public Museum’s Chaffee Planetarium, 7:30 p.m. By the way, the main showroom features Hippie Sabotage the same night, with MELVV and Oliver Francis also helping fill the dance floor, $23 advance, $25 day of show. Doors for the 16-and-older show open at 8 p.m. And Biomassive is massively talented, too. Tuesday, $7 advance, $10 day of show – Chicago’s Mungion unleashes mind-bending musical wizardry that ranges from prog-rock to bluegrass that invigorates jam-band fans. Mungion playing The Stache inside The Intersection in Grand Rapids, 9 p.m. Attendees paint along with artist Marlene Boonstra as she guides you through a nature scene in the style of Monet, while listening to the lilting sounds of Gail Saldatori on the violin. Tuesday – This “February Affair” show features the MusArte Duo – a unique performance combining live painting and music. Musarte Duo at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, 6:30 p.m. Get tickets and details about Sunday’s concert online at. The 53-year-old Kevin McKeehan, aka TobyMac, has been a hit machine over the years on the Billboard Christian Songs chart, after starting his career with the Christian vocal trio DC Talk (which also included Grand Rapids singer Kevin Max). Mandisa, Danny Gokey, Ryan Stevenson, Finding Favour and Aaron Cole join TobyMac for the Christian hip hop artist’s “Hits Deep Live” tour which makes its only Michigan stop this weekend in Grand Rapids. This is the perfect way to bid adieu to February. Local Spins Wednesdays are presented by Local Spins, SpeakEZ Lounge, Perrin Brewing Company and WYCE, with Michigan beer specials on tap and free parking in the Monroe Avenue lot across from SpeakEZ. Expect a night of Petty favorites and more. For this SpeakEZ show, he plans a semi-acoustic version of that band featuring keyboard player Dennie Middleton and guitarist Everett Domeier (and maybe some special guests). His vocal resemblance to Petty is uncanny. No tribute sounds more like Petty than the one powered by Grand Haven’s Leaver, who’s long fronted The American Heartbreakers tribute band. “Local Spins Wednesdays Tribute Month at SpeakEZ Lounge” wraps up this week with well-known Grand Haven singer and guitarist Jack Leaver leading a tribute to the late Tom Petty and his massive catalog of iconic rock music.
